Superscript

Insurance for businesses big, little and bold.

Be the first to review

Superscript was founded in London in 2015, built around a fairly specific gap in the insurance market: small businesses, sole traders, and landlords whose risks never really fit the standard off-the-shelf policy. The company runs two distinct arms. One is a self-serve online platform for UK customers with more straightforward needs. The other, SuperscriptQ, is an advised broking service covering the UK and wider European Economic Area, built for tech companies facing messier risks, professional indemnity, medical malpractice, that kind of thing, with clients including fintech firm Paddle.

The business has raised close to $80 million across six funding rounds, including a £45 million Series B back in early 2023. It’s also the first UK-based insurtech to become a Lloyd’s of London broker, and it runs as a dual-regulated business across Europe rather than staying UK-only. On top of that, Superscript holds Certified B Corp status, and as of 2026 it employs roughly 110 people spread across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Partnerships have done a lot of the heavy lifting on growth. TSB Bank started offering Superscript’s insurance to its small business banking customers back in 2023. Checkatrade partnered up in 2024 for tailored cover aimed at tradespeople. More recent deals with Toolstation and travel tech group HBX Group pushed the company into new customer bases in 2025. That same year brought some real recognition: Growth Company of the Year at the National Insurance Awards, plus Commercial Lines Broker of the Year in the SME/Mid-Market category at the British Insurance Awards.

Coverage spans public liability, professional indemnity, cyber insurance, business contents, and a handful of other commercial lines. Less a single insurance product, then, more a broker built to match small, fast-growing businesses with policies that actually fit how they operate.
