Qcom

Going The Extra Mile...

Qcom traces back to 1978, originally incorporated as Q-COM Electronics Limited, before becoming Q-COM Maintenance Limited in 1988 and later taking the Qcom name as the business repositioned itself as a technical outsourcing specialist. Over that time, the company built its reputation specifically around supporting the wireless and mobile technology sector, offering pre- and post-sales support services that let manufacturers hand off technical work rather than build out their own support teams.

One example of that model in practice: Qcom was appointed to manage customer wireless network pre- and post-sales support for Psion Teklogix, a global manufacturer of handheld and wireless network devices whose customers span airports, government departments, the automotive industry, warehousing and distribution, and retail. The three-year contract covered a genuinely broad scope of work, RF site surveys, installations, configuration, staging, troubleshooting, and ongoing on-site support across Psion Teklogix’s hardware and network infrastructure. Psion Teklogix’s own managing director, Paul Westmoreland, pointed to Qcom’s non-competing position and spare capacity as reasons for choosing them, alongside a working relationship that predated the contract.

Under managing director Neil Anderson, QCOM framed its value proposition around a fairly simple idea: outsourcing wireless network infrastructure support lets manufacturers stay focused on their core business rather than building and maintaining in-house technical support capability. Qcom positioned itself as a seamless extension of a manufacturer’s own operations, something Anderson described as critical for partners working with large-scale technology vendors.

Company filings show the business, now trading as Qcom Outsourcing Ltd, is currently in administration under insolvency practitioners Leonard Curtis, based in Worcester, a less active chapter for a company with roots stretching back more than 45 years as a specialist in technical and wireless network support.
