Truth. Freedom. Vocation
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is a US-based private Lutheran university in Chicago. The stody of CUC started in 1864, when it opened as Addison Lutheran Teachers Seminary. It has since grown from a small teacher-training school into a liberal arts university. CUC belongs to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and is one of six independent colleges and universities in the Concordia University System. According to CUC, faith is part of everyday campus life, and it also holds the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) designation. Its alumni network now includes 42,000+ graduates.
The university delivers 100+ undergraduate and graduate degree options, from associate to doctoral level. These sit under four colleges: the College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Health, Science & Technology, and the College of Theology, Arts & Humanities. Education has long been a core strength, with programs for classroom teachers, school leaders, and church professionals. Business students, meanwhile, can pursue programs that pair ethics with hands-on skills, while the health and science college covers fields such as nursing and counseling. Beyond these, CUC runs centers of excellence in Christian Education, Church Music, and Gerontology, along with a Free Enterprise Center.
As for study options, students can choose a traditional campus experience or an online route. The online programs let learners take one class at a time, with each class lasting eight weeks. Undergraduates can earn a degree in as little as 16 months, and graduate students can complete master’s and doctoral programs online. In addition, the university offers study abroad options and the Lutheran College Washington Semester. Because Chicago is a major business hub with 35 Fortune 500 headquarters, students also have access to internships and career openings in the city.
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) holds full authorization from the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and its degree programs are officially approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
To support seamless online learning across state lines, the university participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). CUC is also an active member of several prestigious educational networks, including:
It also has Specialized Program Accreditations where individual colleges and degree tracks at CUC hold specialized accreditation from leading national bodies:
The main aim for CUC is forming students for vocations in the church, family, and the world. It gives admission preference to members of the Lutheran faith, while admitting students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin. Its Klinck Memorial Library, Writing Center, and Career Services help students with research, writing, and job planning during their studies.
