Cleartrip

Making Travel Simple

Be the first to review

Cleartrip has carved out a place as a go-to digital travel brand in India, built around the idea of making bookings feel effortless rather than complicated. Three co-founders, Stuart Crighton, Hrush Bhatt, and Matthew Spacie, launched the platform in 2006 after spotting how scattered and cumbersome the country’s travel options still were. Their goal was straightforward: give people a single, clean interface for flights and stays without the usual friction.

A few years after that, they moved into the Middle East. They started in the UAE in 2010, then spread their reach across the Gulf. In 2018, they bought the Saudi travel site Flyin. That deal helped them get a firmer position in the region.

Things changed more in 2021. Flipkart, backed by Walmart, bought the entire business. Later in the same year, the Adani Group also took a smaller share. As of now, the headquarters is situated in Bangalore, with offices in Mumbai and Gurugram.

What began as mostly flights and hotels has turned into a much wider set of options. You can still book domestic and international flights, of course, but also hotels, trains through the IRCTC system, buses on hundreds of thousands of routes, and complete holiday packages. Businesses get their own version called Cleartrip for Business, and travel agents use a tool named Agent Box. Over time the company added flexible products like CT Flex, CT FlexMax and CT Upgrade, plus practical extras such as holding a hotel room without paying upfront (Book at Zero) and cover if a visa gets rejected.

Support runs around the clock, on the phone, through chat inside the app, and through self-service tools, so people can reschedule, cancel, or chase refunds without waiting forever. In 2026 they launched Elite, a free loyalty program. After two bookings in a year, you unlock cheaper flight date changes, hotel discounts, holiday vouchers, SuperCoins that work across Flipkart, and quicker help when something goes wrong. They’re also testing AI features that let you type in different languages and get itinerary suggestions back in the same language.

Almost twenty years after those first bookings, Cleartrip is still trying to make travel feel less complicated and more flexible for both everyday travelers and the companies that book on their behalf.
