Cavere Group was formed in November 2008 by a team of insurance industry experts, and it has been based in York ever since. It works as a holding company. Cavere Ltd, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, supplies products and services to the general insurance trade, and Coverbaloo is the retail brand that sells directly to consumers. Cavere Insurance itself doesn’t sell to the public, so anyone wanting a quote goes through Coverbaloo.
Technology sits at the center of the business. Cavere runs everything on Magenta, its own point-of-sale system, which handles applications and administration from start to finish. The company says its systems are designed and built in-house by its own insurance specialists, which helps it launch products for partners quickly, sometimes within weeks.
Its range covers residential buildings and contents, landlords’ let property, tenants’ contents, home emergencies, lifestyle protection, and travel. Some of its work has been ahead of the market. In 2016 it was among the first brokers in the country to launch a home insurance product backed by Flood Re, the government- and industry-supported scheme. That policy offered flood-risk homes coverage with an excess of only £250. Cavere later moved its core buildings and contents cover to pricing based on individual properties rather than postcodes, aiming for fairer premiums.
The company reached its ten-year anniversary in 2018, and it keeps working with underwriters such as Ageas and Financial & Legal, plus white-label schemes for partners.
