Everlane is an American retailer of clothing, which was established in 2011 by Michael Preysman and Jesse Farmer in San Francisco, California. The company was founded as an online menswear retailer that was founded on the idea of transparent pricing in fashion retail. The founders wanted to demonstrate to the customers the true price of producing clothes and minimize the average retail markup by selling directly to customers. Initial demand was very high, with tens of thousands signing the invite list of the brand within the first few hours following its launch with only a small number of T-shirts in the company.
It manufactures both men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, such as T-shirts, sweaters, denim, outerwear, shoes, and bags in addition to other items of daily use. Its products also tend to concentrate on low-key design and durable fabrics like Peruvian Pima cotton, Japanese denim, and high-quality cashmere. A lot of products are created in the form of simple shapes and neutral colors to be used on a regular basis and not just according to the seasonal fashion trends.
The environmental initiatives are also included in product development of the brand. In 2018 Everlane launched a collection called ReNew that is made out of recycled plastic bottles used to make outerwear. The company promised to remove virgin plastic in its supply chain and packaging by reengineering its synthetic fabrics with recycled elements. With time, the company has grown beyond its online retailing operation to physical outlets in some cities in the United States, such as New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., Austin, and San Francisco.
Everlane came to be referred to as a large direct-to-consumer fashion brand that is concerned with transparency and ethical sourcing. The business is still selling clothing in its online platform and physical shop and is creating new sustainable materials and collections.
