Experienced, Innovative, Adaptive
EC Electronics was incorporated in 1984 as a cable assembly specialist, and more than 40 years of steady, acquisition-driven growth later, it’s become a genuine European electronics manufacturing group. The company added printed circuit board manufacturing to its services in 1998, and the following year relocated to a new factory in Basingstoke, Hampshire, which remains its head office today.
Expansion picked up through the 2000s. EC acquired Thrust Electronics in 2000 to diversify its customer base, then set up a Romanian subsidiary in 2006 to take advantage of lower-cost manufacturing, followed by a Hong Kong supply chain office in 2010. In 2014 the company won the Inspire Business of the Year award, competing against businesses across Hampshire, and from 2015 onward growth leaned increasingly on acquisitions: Sub Assembly Services in 2015, Hunter Cable Assembly in 2016, and a new Netherlands office in Amsterdam in 2019.
The acquisitions kept coming at pace into the 2020s. EC bought Swan EMS in 2022, Liad Electronics Breda in the Netherlands in 2024, and, most recently, Gwent Cables and Fastlink Data Cables, both in 2026, extending the group’s cable assembly capability further.
Today, under Executive Chairman Phil Simmonds and Group Managing Director Lee Pope, EC Electronics runs five manufacturing facilities across the UK, Netherlands, and Romania, offering PCB and cable assembly, overmoulding, potting, conformal coating, and full turnkey manufacturing for sectors including healthcare, automotive, industrial, IoT, and capital equipment. The company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications and has set out an eight-year ESG roadmap covering emissions, waste, and supply chain transparency, continuing a run of growth that’s barely slowed since that first cable assembly order back in 1984.
