Voltacon

Electrical engineers since 2001.

Voltacon was established in 2001 by a team of electrical engineers, and more than two decades on, it’s still run along those same lines: an engineering group first, a brand second. Based in Coventry, the company has spent that time building experience across power electronics, electricity generation and distribution, and renewable energy, and it now operates through two specialist arms rather than as a single generalist supplier.

Voltacon Solar handles grid-tied photovoltaic parks and solar roofs, hybrid and off-grid inverters, battery storage, and small wind turbines for homes and businesses looking to generate their own power. Its energy storage work is run in partnership with Hoppecke, covering both lithium packs and heavy-duty OPzS lead-acid batteries. The lighting side, Ledison, has been part of the group since 2010, supplying LED lighting for shopping centers, multi-story car parks, factories, ferries, cruise liners, and warships. Its fittings, retrofit lamps, panels, downlights, floodlights, and recessed lighting are manufactured and supplied in the UK.
The military work is where Voltacon’s engineering standards get their toughest test: its lighting is approved by both the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence, and managing large-scale projects for those two organizations sets the benchmark the group still builds to. Other customers include Tesco, P&O Ferries, GKN, and Nisa. Voltacon UK Limited holds ISO 9001 certification for quality and ISO 14001 for environmental standards, with the same accreditation extending to its own manufacturing plant.

The scale of what’s been installed backs up the “25 years” framing: more than 200 MW of photovoltaics fitted worldwide and 15 MW of off-grid capacity installed across the group. Recent moves include a partnership with JA Solar and MCS certification for its Renesola photovoltaic panels, keeping both brands moving under the same engineering-led approach the company started with in 2001.
